Internet scams can be found in many forms. Two of the most common are phishing and fraud emails from African countries such as Nigeria. The fraud emails appear as scam letters that start of with a greeting like "HELLO DEAR" or something similar. Internet scams typically come from foreign countries such as Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire which is also known as Ivory Coast. Many of the fraud emails coming from these countries indicate as much. They are not exclusive to Africa, however. They can come from regions such as Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In addition, some Internet scams use words with all capital letters in their communications such as this one.

Sample fraud emails are provided to help identify and report Internet scams from Africa and other places in the world. Once an Internet scam has been identified, it can be reported to the FBI. Scams and other forms of email fraud can be prevented from scamming people by spotting different aspects of the scam letters.
