Phishing, Email and other Internet ScamsPhishing and other internet scams usually take place through email. This website provides many examples of phishing emails and Nigerian and African scams to trick people into thinking they can make quick and easy money only they have to pay a fee. The internet has made it easy for people to communicate with each other. It also has made it easy for scam artists and con artists to make easy money. The majority of these scams operate by sending people email telling them about a large sum of money they are to recieve. Another type is called phishing where a scammer tries to get you to reveal information information about yourself to the scammer. Usually, this information includes account numbers from banks and other financial institutions, social security numbers as well as name, phone number, address, etc. The people operating these scams do so from locations around the world. Mostly they do business in Europe or Africa. In Europe, the majority of scam email seems to come from the UK. The vast majority of these emails however, seem to come from Nigeria. Nigeria is an oil producing country on the southern coast of Africa. Another African country that appears to be involved is Cote D'Ivore which means Ivory Coast. It is not far from Nigeria. The scammers in these countries send emails that tell the reader that they have won the UK lottery or have inherited millions of dollars or pounds. If the reader responds, a fake check is sent for the victim to cash with the proceeds being sent back to the scammer. A phishing email usually tells the reader that their account has been deactivated or that they have some problem with their account. They urge the reader to login using a form that requires a user name, password and eventually other information.
